NEWS: New Mega Cruise Ship Delayed, 2025 Initial Sailing Canceled

Published: February 27, 2024

Everyone is talking about the new world’s largest cruise ship — Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas. But did you know that its sister ship was on the way?

Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas

Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas was set to make its debut in August 2025. In fact, the initial sailings for this cruise went on sale in December. But now, travelers are learning that the ship will be delayed, and the initial sailing has been canceled.

Royal Caribbean notified travel agents today that the new ship’s inaugural sailing on August 17th, 2025, has been canceled. “After a review of the work that remains to be done, we’re unfortunately forced to delay the ship’s delivery date,” Royal Caribbean said in an email.

Star of the Seas will travel to Royal Caribbean’s private island, Coco Cay.

The new inaugural sailing for the ship will begin on August 31st, 2025, and travelers who had booked the August 17th cruise can automatically transfer to the new sailing. If that doesn’t work for them, Royal Caribbean is offering sailings on alternative ships during the week of August 17th, or full refunds.

“Chill Island” is the name of the pool deck on Star of the Seas.

When the Star of the Seas sets sail, its home port will be Port Canaveral in Florida, and it will sail on 7-day Caribbean itineraries. The ship will have six waterslides, a combination ropes course/sky walk/thrill ride, and seven pools — including an infinity pool suspended 135-feet above the ocean.

If you were booked on the canceled cruise, you should contact your travel agent or Royal Caribbean for more information and to change your plans.
